Ecorys, Parenting UK and Orion are pleased to be supporting the Department for Education’s parenting classes trial, taking place in Middlesbrough, Camden and High Peak in Derbyshire from April 2012.
The trial aims to encourage all parents and carers to access parenting classes and advice. We believe this will help parents at one of the most demanding stages of their lives and will help to make accessing parenting support as normal as attending antenatal classes.
Ecorys, Parenting UK and Orion are working together and will be supporting the local providers in each area.
The consortium will manage voucher production and distribution, a website and a helpline for parents wanting to access the free classes. We will also be working with the local workforce in distributing vouchers to parents through children’s centres, nurseries, health visitors, leisure centres and GP surgeries, as well as making payments to class providers and gathering data from the trial.
We are confident that parents will take up this free support particularly as there is a range of support on offer including face to face groups, helplines and online support. Many organisations involved offer courses and support at different times of the day and also a crèche facility.
Pamela Park, Chief Executive of Parenting UK says, “We greatly hope that this scheme will prove successful in strengthening family life and building strong parent-child relationships. The universal nature of this offer will help to create a more positive culture towards parenting support and ensure wider public recognition that the early years of a child’s life are vitally important in shaping their future.”
Kursat Levent Egriboz, Managing Director of Ecorys UK’s Technical Assistance Division says,
“We are extremely pleased to be heading up the consortium and also to be working with the voluntary sector in each of the trial areas. The voluntary sector will be vital in helping us to deliver support to parents, providers and practitioners. We are committed to showing parents that they are not alone and that there is flexible and tailored support available to help them to improve their relationships with their children.”
