Clear eligibility criteria

What is this?

“Eligibility criteria” refers to the suitability of a programme to particular parents and children. For example, some services are best suited for parents of teenagers, parents of disabled children or vulnerable and socially excluded families.

Practitioners need to choose a programme or approach which matches the parents they are working with. The better the match between the eligibility criteria of the intervention and the needs of the target family, the more likely the intervention will achieve measurable effects.

Practitioners should be clear about the outcomes they are trying to achieve for parents and children, so that they can choose a parenting programme which has the same outcomes.
